What Is BOTOX®?

Most people have heard of BOTOX®, but many aren’t familiar with exactly what it is or how it works. This injectable treatment is a muscle relaxer that helps to smooth the appearance of line and wrinkles, specifically in the face. Using botulinum toxin type A to temporarily paralyze or “freeze” certain muscles in the face, BOTOX® only affects wrinkles that are a result of expression or muscle movement. This makes it most effective on lines between the eyebrows, on the forehead, and around the eyes.

Is BOTOX® Safe and Effective?

According to the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, BOTOX® injections are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures used nationwide. Its use as a cosmetic treatment for lines and wrinkles in the face was first approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in 2002, but it has been approved for the use of treatment of other medical issues since 1989. It’s important to note that although BOTOX® is considered to be an effective treatment, its effects are only temporary, typically lasting anywhere from 3-4 months. This means that regular appointments are necessary to achieve lasting results.

What To Expect With BOTOX®

As a minimally invasive procedure, BOTOX® requires no real preparation on the part of the client. It’s important to discuss your goals, areas of concern, and any allergies you may have to your medical provider prior to treatment. During the procedure, several injections will be made at targeted locations, and clients can expect to feel a poking or pinching sensation. After receiving BOTOX®, clients can resume their normal daily activities. Some minor bruising or swelling may occur after injection; however if any other pain, allergy, or fatigue side effects occur, your provider should be contacted immediately. Results are typically visible within 7-10 days and maximum results are usually seen after about 2 weeks.

How Much Does BOTOX® Cost?

BOTOX® is typically priced at $10-$20 per unit, and the cost depends on how many units a client needs to meet their particular goals. At Pure Skin, our membership allows Botox to be as low as $55 a month plus tax!
