When summer comes to Connecticut it's often a mad rush for the beach. After being cooped up for long and dark winters there's nothing quite like feeling the soothing rays of the warm summer sun. However, as everyone knows, the UV rays beaming down from the burning star can be extremely damaging to the skin. From burns and sun spots to skin cancer and wrinkles, the intense summer sun can be your skin's worst enemy. At PureSkin we want you to have a fun and enjoyable summer so we offer the following tips that will help you keep your skin safe from sun exposure.
Use Sunscreen: Whether you tan or not, the prevailing wisdom of the day is to use sunscreen whenever you anticipate being out in the sun for extended periods of time. From sun bathing to working in a garden, the effects of the sun on unprotected skin can be harsh. Look for sunscreen products with an SPF rating of 30 or higher and be sure to apply a good amount roughly 30 minutes before going outside. Time your Exposure: In the summer the sun is at its peak and most intense between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm. If you have fair skin it is advised that you avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during this time. If you plan on exercising outdoors, try to do it early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the sun is starting to set. Wear a Hat: Summer is all about style and if you are heading out for a day trip and don't want to have to bother with constant sunscreen application, find a comfortable and chic hat you can wear. Sun burns often occur on the neck, forehead and nose so with a wide brimmed hat you can safely block those harmful UV rays and look fashionable. Being safe in the summer doesn't mean not having a good time. With the right preparation you can ensure your skin is well-protected from harmful UV rays so you can spend your days at the beach, swimming in the pool or just relaxing outside.
