CO₂RE Laser – Pre & Post Treatment Instructions

Pre-Treatment Instructions

  1. Hydrate: For seven days before treatment, moisturize your skin morning and evening, and drink at least 8 glasses of water daily to fully hydrate your skin and optimize results.
  2. Antiviral Prevention: If you are undergoing a deeper peel or have a history of cold sores (Herpes Simplex), you may be prescribed antiviral medication 3–4 days prior to your procedure.
  3. Pause Retinoids: Discontinue topical retinoid therapy 3–4 days before treatment.
  4. Limit Sun Exposure: Avoid prolonged sun exposure. If you must be outside, apply a zinc oxide sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.
  5. Clean Skin: Remove all products from the treatment area, including makeup, lotions, deodorant, hairspray, gel, self-tanners, and ointments. Avoid flammable products near the laser.
  6. Skip Alcohol-Based Cleansers: These strip moisture from the skin and should be avoided before treatment.

During Treatment (Safety Measures)

  • Protective eyewear will be worn by both patient and staff during the procedure.
  • A smoke evacuator will be used to clear any debris from the air.
  • In some cases, a test spot may be performed, followed by a two-week observation period before full treatment.

Post-Treatment Care

  1. Normal Reactions: Redness (1–3 days, longer for aggressive treatments), swelling, and a mild sunburn sensation are common. Skin may darken and flake:
  2. Face & Neck: Flaking starts at 5–7 days
  3. Chest: Flaking starts at 7–10 days
  4. Hands: Flaking starts at 10–14 days
  5. Cooling: Cool compresses, gel packs, or facial masks may be used for up to 10 minutes after treatment.
  6. Moisturizing Ointment: A topical ointment (like Aquaphor) may be applied; no bandages are needed.
  7. Vinegar Soaks: For more aggressive treatments, vinegar soaks may be recommended several times daily.
  8. Skincare Routine: Resume your regular skincare products only when instructed by your provider.
  9. Bathing: No restrictions, but treat skin gently—avoid scrubbing or friction.
  10. Sun Protection: Avoid direct sun exposure to prevent hyperpigmentation. Use zinc oxide sunscreen SPF 30+ daily.
  11. Treatment Series: Multiple treatments (3 or more) over several months may be needed for optimal results.
  12. Mask Hygiene: Keep the treated area clean and always use a fresh mask when needed.

You may notice both immediate and longer-term improvements in your skin.
