Selphyl PRFM – Pre & Post Treatment Instructions

The quality of your platelets will directly impact your results. If you have a history of chronic thrombocytopenia, other platelet disorders, recent serious illness (within 4 weeks), or are taking new medications, please discuss this with your provider before treatment. Certain conditions and medications can affect platelet quality and PRFM outcomes.

Pre-Treatment Instructions

  • Avoid Alcohol: Do not consume alcohol for 72 hours prior to your treatment, as it can temporarily suppress platelet quality and function.
  • Avoid Anti-Inflammatory Medications & Supplements for 7 days before treatment to reduce bruising risk:
  • Prednisone
  • Aleve (naproxen)
  • Motrin, Ibuprofen
  • Mobic
  • Celebrex
  • Fish oils & omega supplements
(If prescribed by your provider, do not stop these medications without their guidance.)

Post-Treatment Care

For the first 72 hours, the PRFM will form a clot under the skin where injected. This clot releases growth factors as it naturally dissolves, helping to stimulate collagen production and/or hair follicle activity. Keeping the area undisturbed is essential.

Care Guidelines:

  • Wait 8–12 hours before washing or showering (unless otherwise instructed).
  • Facial Injections: Lumps or swelling may be visible for 24–72 hours.
  • Scalp Injections: Some dried blood or scabbing is normal.
  • Microneedling with PRFM: Skin may feel tight and shiny.
  • Avoid vibrating skincare tools (e.g., Clarisonic, facial massagers) for 7 days.
  • Sun Protection is Critical:
  • Avoid all sun exposure.
  • Wear a mineral-only SPF 50+ and reapply every hour when outdoors, including while driving.
  • No tanning beds.
  • Avoid extreme cold or heat for 72 hours.
  • Use cool or lukewarm water when bathing; avoid hot water for 8–12 hours.
  • Do not rub or massage treated areas for 72 hours; use only a light touch if washing.
  • No facials or anti-aging treatments to the face for 1 week.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Try not to lie directly on treated areas for 72 hours.
  • Small bumps or marks should fade within a few hours.
  • Avoid makeup for the rest of the day on treated facial areas; you may apply makeup the next day with clean tools and a gentle touch.
  • Some firmness at injection sites is normal for a few days and will soften over time.

Treatment Timeline & Results

  • Results may take up to 30 days to begin appearing.
  • Full results may take up to 3 months.
  • Most patients complete a series of 3–4 monthly treatments for optimal improvement.
  • Results typically last about 6 months; retreatment every 6 months is recommended to maintain results.

Additional Notes

  • Keep treated areas clean. If wearing a mask, use a new, clean mask each time it is reapplied.
  • PRFM is made from your own blood, so allergic reactions are not expected.
  • Complications are rare and usually related to the injection process, not the PRFM itself.
  • Contact our office immediately if you notice increased pain, drainage, redness, warmth at injection sites, or have any concerns.
