Did you know that there’s a fresher, healthier layer of skin hiding just beneath the surface of your body? There’s an easy, non-invasive way to bring that layer to the forefront and give you a glowing appearance: the chemical peel. These treatments are extremely popular, are safe, and are convenient for clients. At Pure Skin, we are able to offer chemical peels that leave your skin looking fabulous and leave you feeling confident and refreshed.
Chemical peels are non-invasive treatments that use acidic compounds to exfoliate the skin, removing damaged or dead skin cells on the treated area. These compounds affect the top layer of the skin, or the epidermis, and stronger chemical peels can also affect the layer just underneath, called the dermis. Since chemical peels remove layers of skin, they do require some healing time after treatment and avoiding sun exposure during the healing process. There are three main types of chemical peels, which include:
Superficial Chemical Peels. These are the gentlest type of chemical peel and take the least amount of time to heal. These peels treat the surface layer of the skin.
Medium-Depth Peels. These peels are stronger and effective at treating skin concerns such as minor acne scars, hyperpigmentation, fine lines/wrinkles, and sun damage. They may be accompanied by noticeable swelling and redness, and can take up to two weeks to heal.
Deep Chemical Peels. Deep chemical peels are not as common, as they are the strongest type of peel and are often accompanied by up to three weeks of recovery time. These peels can be effective for moderate to severe sun damage, hyperpigmentation, or wrinkles.
Chemical peels are well-loved by clients for several reasons. They typically require no preparation on the part of the client, and clients can usually return to daily activities immediately after treatment. Chemical peels can be effective in combating a number of common skin issues, including:
Like most skin care treatments, clients can expect to experience a few mild side effects when receiving a chemical peel. These side effects can differ based on the strength of the peel and the sensitivity of the client’s skin. Common effects of a chemical peel include temporary redness, swelling, stinging or burning, dryness, and of course, peeling. These effects are expected to subside in about a week for most chemical peels. Less common side effects that are seen with stronger grade chemical peels include scarring, darkening or lightening of the skin, loss of the inability to tan/greater risks of sunburn, and possible infection for people with herpes simplex. It is extremely important to follow your provider’s post-procedure care instructions, including the use of any creams or moisturizers and staying out of the sun.
