What Is an IPL Photofacial?

An IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, photofacial is a non-invasive treatment that uses light therapy to achieve desired results. Intense pulses of light are directed into the skin in order to reach the deeper layers of the skin, making it effective in treating issues that stem from under the skin’s surface. The light pulses work on two fronts: they damage melanin, or pigmentation in the skin, breaking up dark spots, and they damage hemoglobin, which stimulates blood flow and increases the production of collagen. What To Expect With an IPL Photofacial

There is no prep work required for an IPL photofacial, although it’s important to note that these treatments are recommended for lighter skin tones, and you should be tan-free prior to treatment. After identifying the areas you’re looking to focus on, you’ll be given dark glasses to protect your eyes during treatment and a cooling gel will be applied. Then, the light pulses will be administered by our team of registered nurses and will typically taking 30 minutes to an hour depending on the size of the treatment area. During treatment, clients may feel a stinging or sunburn-like sensation. After the procedure, you’ll be able to get right back to your daily activities, although you may experience some redness, swelling, and dark spots that will fade. Typically, significantly noticeable results will require a series of 3 treatments administered by our team of registered nurses.
